Obituary of Hilda Cavanagh

(nee Bidgood)

August 11, 1933 – May 1st, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved family matriarch, Hilda Edna Cavanagh at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the age of 90. She was the heart and soul of our family and was loved by all who knew her. She was the cherished wife of the late Mervyn Cavanagh (2015). Her nurturing presence was felt deeply by her children, James (Beth), the late Cecil (Christine) and Carol Nicol (late Sandy). Hilda's love knew no bounds, extending to her grandchildren, Ashley (Troy), Jonathan (Stephanie), Lindsay (Brad), Andrea (Conner), Kendra (Mike), and Blair (Jackson), as well as her great-grandchildren, Grady, Rowan, Colter, Caden, Callum, William, Bodie, Hadley, Ellie, Paddy, and Nora. Her memory will forever be treasured by her dear sister, Bev Pothier (Claude) of N.B., and by the numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Hilda was predeceased by her siblings Robert Bidgood (late Mary), Sheila Cavanagh (late Leonard), and Betty Dowd (late Bob). Born in Galetta at the family home to her late parents Cecil and Edna (Smith) Bidgood, Hilda later settled with Mervyn on the farm in Kinburn, where she became the heart of her family. Hilda's warmth and love extended to all who knew her, and she delighted in gathering loved ones at the farm, where her famous raisin pie was always a highlight. Hilda's passions extended beyond the farm; she found joy and fulfillment in quilting alongside her various professional roles, including the Royal Bank in Arnprior, Carleton Bus Lines, and briefly at Cavan's Veterinarian in Kinburn. Hilda’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street N. Arnprior where visitation will take place Monday May 13, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.  A Memorial service will follow at the Boyce Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Boyce Reception Centre. Interment St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Diamondview Road, Kinburn.  Donations in memory of Hilda may be made to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation (select the donations tab found on this page) or to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation at https://secure3.convio.net/otthf/site/Donation2?df_id=1541&1541.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T
